Good morning, Aggieland. Election week is behind us, and it turns out voters can agree on at least one thing: more classrooms, more concerts, and more sunshine. From a $400 million school bond to First Friday festivities, it’s shaping up to be a good week to celebrate community.

$400 Million Bryan ISD School Bond Passes
🏫 Voters in Bryan ISD showed strong support for education by approving all three propositions of the $397 million bond package on Tuesday. The largest portion, Proposition A at $325.5 million, passed decisively and will fund general projects including safety improvements, maintenance, construction, and enhancements to career, technical, and fine arts education. Proposition B secured a narrower victory with $67.4 million allocated for upgrading stadiums and athletic fields across the district, including improvements to Merrill Green Stadium and baseball/softball facilities at both high schools. The smallest measure, Proposition C, received the highest approval rate and will invest $4.06 million in classroom technology, bringing interactive digital displays to every classroom throughout the district.

New Bryan City Manager
🏢 The Bryan City Council will consider appointing former Mayor Andrew Nelson as the next city manager during their November 11th meeting. If approved, Nelson would begin his duties on November 24th, bringing extensive leadership experience as CEO of Lisam America and founder of TomorrowNow, Inc. During his six-year tenure as mayor from 2016 to 2022, Nelson helped navigate Bryan through major challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and Winter Storm Uri (Snow-vid, Snowpocalypse, etc.), while overseeing transformative projects like Travis Bryan Midtown Park and Legends Event Center. A Bryan resident for 24 years, the Texas A&M mechanical engineering graduate has deep roots in the community, having served in several city leadership roles including president of the Texas Municipal Power Agency and board member of Bryan Texas Utilities.

🎉 The streets of Downtown Bryan come alive on the First Friday of each month with an impressive array of live music, art demonstrations, and interactive activities for all ages. Visitors can explore numerous art vendors along Bryan Avenue and 26th Street, offering unique artwork, jewelry, and handmade goods from local talents like Rogue & Shadow, Claytique, and many others. Main Street transforms with vendors from the Farmers' Market selling everything from roasted nuts to handmade soaps, while shops like Wonderful Words, Pot Heads Plant Shop, and LoveDowntownLocal will be open for shoppers. For those seeking entertainment beyond shopping, the event features antique cars, free photo booths, balloon animals, and face painting, making First Friday a perfect monthly celebration of local culture and community spirit.
